Foundation

1) Which activities/sectors interest the Foundation?

The Foundation’s main purposes are to promote studies and initiatives to deepen knowledge in the academic fields of economics and finance, granting one or more academic scholarships, fellowships and other grants per year. Find out more in the section "Foundation"

3) When was the Foundation established?

The Knight of Labor Ugo Foscolo Foundation is a private foundation established by UniCredit Group in March 2009. The Foundation continues the activities of the former Fondazione Cavaliere del Lavoro Ugo Foscolo già presidente del Banco di Roma, established in 1966. Its main purposes are to promote studies in the field of economics through grants, scholarships and fellowships. Find out more in the section "Foundation"

4) Why is the Foundation named after Ugo Foscolo?

The Foundation is named after Ugo Foscolo, in memory of the Knight of Labor Ugo Foscolo former Chairman of Banco di Roma. After his death in 1966, it was his wife’s wish to commemorate him by establishing the Ugo Foscolo Foundation, aiming at supporting the studies of the best students through grants and scholarships. Awards

1) What is a scholarship?

A scholarship is an award targeted at talented graduates who wish to pursue doctoral studies abroad. Find out more in the section "Scholarships"

2) What is a fellowship?

A fellowship is an award targeted at talented researchers who have completed an economics or finance Ph.D. abroad, are teaching or conducting research outside of Italy or Europe, and intend to continue their work at an Italian or European university. Find out more in the section "Fellowships"

3) Does the Foundation offer any scholarships for undergraduates?

The UniCredit Study Abroad Exchange Programme offers 22 grants to all students to spend six months abroad to/from the following seven countries: Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Russia, Serbia and Ukraine. Applicants must be citizen of one of the 22 countries where UniCredit is present and students in at least their second year of studies in the fields of economics, finance, banking, management engineering, law and economics.

4) Must I be an Italian citizen to apply for a scholarship/fellowship?

Italian citizenship is not an eligibility requirement to apply for our scholarships and fellowships. Find out more about the eligibility requirements in the section "Awards"

5) What is the scholarship worth?

Currently the scholarships offered by the Foundation cover up to €25,000 plus the tuition fees. They are granted for one year and may be renewed for a second year. Find out more in the section "Scholarships"

6) What is the fellowship worth?

Currently the fellowships offered by the Foundation cover up to €60,000. They are granted for two years and are renewable for a second two-year term. Find out more in the section "Fellowships"

7) What are the eligibility requirements to apply for the Scholarship?

The eligibility requirements change depending on the scholarship for which you intend to apply (Crivelli or Gratz). Usually the student must have graduated in economics, having obtained the highest marks for the thesis and be enrolled in a course of specialisation abroad. Generally speaking, fellowships are offered to talented researchers who have completed an economics or finance Ph.D. abroad, are teaching or conducting research outside of Italy or Europe, and intend to continue their work at an Italian or European university. 9) What is the mission of the Scientific Committee?

The Scientific Committee plays a fundamental role in the Foundation by selecting the best students and researchers from among the award applicants. The committee determines the merit rankings through which the Board of Directors allocates all grants and scholarships. Find out more in the section "Scientific Committee"

Applications for the Crivelli Europe Scholarship, which will be awarded for the 11th time, are now being accepted.

11) Are the Marco Fanno scholarships awarded by the Foundation?

Since June 2012, in collaboration with Marco Fanno Association, UniCredit & Universities has launched new competitions for Scholarships and Fellowships.

12) When will the Foscolo fellowships be announced?

This year, for the fourth time, one Foscolo Europe Fellowship is now open to the best researchers in economics and finance based in non-European universities who wish to come back to work at a European university.
